A Splendid Time Was Had By All

The 21st Memphis Music and Heritage Festival was a great success. Holding down my volunteer position as manager of the Folklore Hall Stage kept me from doing too much wandering around, but I did get to see snippets of lots of great acts. There is probably not another festival in the country that offers this much variety. From Rockabilly legends Billy Lee Riley and Eddie Bond to Memphis Hip Hop artist AlKapone; From rising indie star Harlan T. Bobo,
to R & B’s Bobby Rush; From the Jazz stylings of Joyce Cobb, Gary Topper and Tony Thomas to the lightning fast bluegrass of GrassFire, to the incredible gospel harmonies of the Singing Southern Jubilees; and of course, one of a kind mixes like Jim Dickinson, Sid Selvidge and Jimmy Crosthwait together on stage. Mix the music with the storytellers, dancers, cooking demonstrations,Memphis Roller Derby, and free admission and you have a sure fire winner.
See you next year!
