Memphis Music and Heritage Festival – Labor Day Weekend

by Joe Spake on July 11, 2009

I don’t know if there is another festival in the world that brings together the diversity of talent we experience every Labor Day weekend at the Memphis Music and Heritage Festival.  The festival features big-name acts on multiple stages, all in a tight venue at South Main and Peabody Place.

On September 5 and 6, expect to see  Blues, Gospel, Rock, Rap, Mariachi, Bluegrass, Folk, Rockabilly, and R&B performances; and that’s just for starters.  The festival also features cooking demontrations from chefs of many local ethnic cuisines, story telling from those who have made their mark in Southern Folklore, vendors, food, and plenty of activities for the kids.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! -  For one of the coolest volunteer gigs around.  If you are interested in helping out with the festival in stage management, the kitchen, beer or merchandise sales, logistics or hospitality, contact Brian Paris at 901-525-3655, Email volunteer@southernfolklore.org, or visit the website http://southernfolklore.com for an online application.  I have been a volunteer for the last 5 years, and I love it!
