My new computer – 1997

by Joe Spake on October 3, 2012

How did we get anything done on the Internet in 1997?

Just a little flash from the past – while going through some old files I found the spec sheet from my cutting edge Gateway P5-166, purchased Feb. 3, 1997, boasting 166MHz Pentium processor, a whopping 32MB of RAM, and a 2.5GB hard drive.  Price, including a $399 HP 5L laser printer – $2568.

Wow. Sad thing is, I worked at firms with Windows 95 as late as 2007. Now, that hard drive wouldn’t hold 10% of my music or photos.

about 2 movies worth of space. and how about that nifty 3.5″ 1.44Mb floppy drive – most of my contract files are larger than that.
