Use Business Cards to Make Social Media Connections

In any business or social setting, business cards are the most cost effective way to make an impression. It’s interesting that people seem to see business cards as such an institutionalized medium for passing out traditional contact information that they overlook the impact of adding social media contact information.
I started putting my social networking info on the back of my cards about a year ago, and my goal is to refine the design enough that I can present either side: Strict business or social.

I try to keep it uncluttered with just website, blog Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter info, plus my mobile for the texters.
For my next edition: better formatting.
Tip: I hate that cumbersome URL for my facebook profile, so I bought http://spakebook.com and point that at my FB profile URL.

Un-customers for Life

I am re-reading Permission Marketing : Turning Strangers Into Friends And Friends Into Customers, by Seth Godin, published in 2000, and a ground breaking marketing book.
While reading, I kept thinking of the fragility of customer relationships, and that while we all like to have “customers for life”, we can easily create “un-customers for life”. Society and technology keep offering more and more options. It is not good enough to have that customer as a raving fan; we must be aware that the raving could quickly stop if we do not maintain a high level of service. There are just too many options and alternatives. One false step and the customer could be gone for good.
Taking the customer’s point of view, I have declared myself a non-customer for life a number of times: a vendor I recommend, who does not treat my customer fairly or r who does not live up to his/her promises seldom gets a second chance with me. Looking back at my past relationships as a customer, I often can’t remember a precise reason why I became an un-customer for life, so the event obviously doesn’t have to be earth shaking. I don’t go to Burger King. I don’t remember what event caused me to scratch them off my list of fast food places. I just know something happened at some time in the past that caused me to never go back.

FaceBook – a great place to start your social media journey

I am fascinated with the social media. Whenever I find a new platform or widget, I am like a kid with a new toy. I have accounts with scores of sites, many of which I use daily; but, by far, Facebook has to be the best all-round social media interface for the beginner or seasoned social networker.

My favorites from my RSS reader, my diggs, my tweets, my SocialMedian clips all go directly to my Facebook wall. Plus, whenever I want, I can add a link, or pictures, a text comment, or a video clip. It allows me a chance to instantly share what I am doing, reading, or thinking about, and what’s important to me.

What does it matter? Is it a waste of time? I know people check my profile because they tell me they do; they discuss my content and leave comments. My goal is to portray the real me through my Facebook profile, to be relevant and to have a little fun doing it.
