Musical History was made here
On July 7, 1954, Memphis disc jockey, Dewey Phillips, changed the course of music history with the first ever air play of an Elvis Presley record, “Thats All Right (Mama)”. Phillips’ WHBQ studio was housed at the Hotel Chisca on the south corner of Main and Linden, Memphis, TN.
The hotel must have been pretty popular, as evidenced by a modern addition.
The building, now owned by the Church of God in Christ, has suffered many years of neglect, and was recently boarded up with red plywood.
